"Why aren't (white) men basic? Because being a (white, heterosexual) man is simply easier, and it's safer to presume that most of their choices are what they actually want. When no one's telling you what to be, it's easier to be you. That's a privilege. Now, do they completely escape this notion, obviously not. As recently put on fantastic display in the 'He For She' campaign, men face their own pressures to do and pretend to like tons of stuff, but the forces are simply less because a man can be an island simply because that's how our society is set up. Also, I think that men linguistically escape this term because it's traditionally and well paired with "bitch," which was already established kindling to be burned by this phenomenon in the...wait for it...black, women, and gay communities...
