"Intentional equity"






I pulled this basically just for the image. It's such a great metaphor for how I experience the world, particularly as a person of color.

There just isn't much middle ground; it feels like you are at either of two extremes: A sad statistic at the bottom or an exceptional token of possibility at the top. And it's tremendously easy to fall (there aren't a lot of ways to prop yourself up when you need to rest), and you kind of have to gain sideways access to support that wasn't built for you, that is on other people's ladders, if you want to climb up. Like, finding mentors who identify with you enough to actually get to know you and provide you with advice and resources; finding little ways to feel like you belong even when no one else looks like you
